The Tablet on the Altar — When Technology Met the Ten Commandments

When Deacon John saw the new Sunday school teacher using a tablet to teach, he frowned.
“Since when did Moses need an iPad?” he muttered.

But that same day, a 9-year-old girl walked up and said, “Sir, I finally understand why God gave the Ten Commandments. They were like His love rules.”

John froze. The message hadn’t lost its power — it had finally been understood.

That’s the paradox of the modern church: we fear technology will replace truth, when in fact, it can help reveal it.

Jesus Used What Worked

Remember when Jesus wrote on the ground before forgiving the adulterous woman (John 8:6)? That was a visual lesson. He didn’t speak; He showed.

If Jesus could use dust, why can’t we use screens?
Technology is not the enemy of spirituality — distraction is.
When used right, tools like videos, animations, and interactive media can bring Scripture to life for children who live in a digital world.

Biblical Lessons in Modern Tools

  • The Projector as a Parable Tool – It paints pictures kids will remember long after class.

  • The Tablet as a Teaching Scroll – Same Word, new form.

  • The Internet as a Mission Field – Today’s children scroll before they read. Why not place Jesus in their scroll?

The early church wrote letters; today we write blogs. The mission never changed — only the medium evolved.
A faithful teacher isn’t the one who avoids change, but the one who adapts to keep the message alive.

Screens Can’t Replace Scripture — But They Can Reflect It

The digital era is not a threat to the gospel; it’s an invitation to innovate faithfully.

Next time you hold your tablet or phone, ask yourself — how can this screen serve the Word instead of stealing my focus from it?
