The Bible on the Dining Table — How One Family Found Revival Between Rice and Stew

The Adeyemi family used to rush through dinner like a marathon.
Phones on. TV loud. Everyone scrolling. Until one night, their 10-year-old daughter, Sarah, asked:

“Daddy, when do we talk about God at home?”

That question changed everything.
The following evening, instead of switching on the TV, Mr. Adeyemi opened the Bible to Proverbs and read one verse. He asked everyone to share what it meant to them.
It was awkward at first — but soon, laughter turned to reflection, and reflection turned to tears.

Now, their dining table isn’t just for food — it’s for feeding faith.

A home without Scripture becomes a house full of noise.
When parents model faith, children don’t just memorize — they internalize.

Discipleship Begins at Home

The church can plant seeds, but only families water them.

“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-7

God never outsourced discipleship to Sunday school — He assigned it to the dinner table.

3 Ways to Start Family Faith Conversations

  1. Make It Short but Consistent: One verse. One thought. One prayer — daily.

  2. Let Kids Ask Weird Questions: Their curiosity is the Holy Spirit knocking.

  3. Tie the Bible to Daily Life: If your child struggled at school, read a verse about courage.

Dinner Tables Can Become Altars

It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being intentional.
God isn’t looking for flawless families — just families willing to invite Him in.

Tonight, before you sleep, ask one child in your home: “What do you think God did for you today?” You’ll be surprised by heaven’s answer from a small mouth.
